Eating Right: Con Sabor Latino

Eating Right: Con Sabor Latino

The Latino Nutrition Coalition (LNC) is an educational program designed to help Latinos improve and maintain their health and combine the best of healthy Latin food traditions with the realities of modern American life. The LNC is sponsored by Olways Preservation trust and provides practical and culturally-aware materials, in both English and Spanish, with a focus on traditional foods and active lifestyles.

The LNC was founded in 2005 as an alliance of scientists, chefs and policy makers with the goal to address and transform the current dietary trends in Latinos living in the United States. The main mission of the organization is to provide the Latino community, with easily understood nutrition, cooking, shopping, and health information, and reduce the negative effects of poor diet, such as obesity and disease, on the Latino population.

The LNC website (www.Latinonutrition.org) offers a wealth of information including the latest news about health issues that affect the Latino community. There is an entire section on diabetes as well as nutrition basics, portion control guidelines and a section on the Latin American Diet Pyramid. The site also provides healthy recipe and shopping ideas and a recipe blog called Sarita’s Sensations. The Press section includes recent and past LNC press releases and press kits as well as more information on healthy eating, geared specifically at the Latino population. There is also a link to an external nutrition blog (Sarita’s Kitchen) and the LNC Twitter feed. The site also provide referrals and networking opportunities for healthcare professionals.
