Picky Eaters

If you are mom to one of those toddlers who will not touch vegetables unless completely famished, you probably spend your days stressed about whether or not she is getting enough nutrition.

But don’t despair; there are creative ways to get your child to eat right. The solution: disguise the dreaded vegetable.

For that you need to check out Jessica Seinfeld’s book: Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food.

Though at one point clouded with some controversy, the book, takes the task of getting children to eat vegetables seriously.

It is full of kid’s recipes that call for vegetable purees that can be added to every dish - this way your child doesn't know she is actually eating vegetables. The purees are steamed vegetables that have been blended and stored and can be used in many recipes. There is a full section of the book dedicated to describing in granular detail how to make many of these purees.

This book is not only creative and helpful, it is also great to behold. It is full of 1950’s drawings that make you think back to the time when fridges were yellow and meals home-cooked. It is completely illustrated, with photos of each recipe, demonstrating how the meal is supposed to look and taking much of the guess work out of the equation.

Deceptively Delicious also includes comments from Joy Bauer, a nutrition specialist, which gives comfort that you are feeding your child well and improving her nutrition.
