Alternative Healing
You're Getting Very Sleepy

Hypnosis is an altered and heightened state of consciousness. In the hypnotic state, the person’s attention is more focused and she is more responsive to suggestions. Hypnosis can help the person affect behavioral changes in order to reach a specific goal or overcome mental or emotional trauma. People often use hypnosis, alone or with a complementary therapy, to quit smoking, overcome phobias and for weight loss. Hypnotherapy is also used as a form of natural healing, for chronic conditions and some forms of cancer.
How Does it Work for Weight Loss
Hypnotherapists often use weight-loss hypnosis to reinforce the effects of cognitive behavioral therapy. The intent is to help the patient remove any mental blocks to weight loss and reinforce positive behaviors. These behaviors may include emotional eating, self esteem issues, and emotional blocks regarding food. The hypnotherapist may also train the client to hypnotize herself, once therapy is complete. There have been several studies concerning weight-loss hypnosis. Most of the studies have shown positive results, with an average weight loss of 6 pounds. However, as with any form of weight loss, results may vary by individual.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Hypnosis
Weight loss success is as much mental as physical. A person can diet and exercise but, she may sabotage herself with negative self talk or self-destructive behaviors. One of the biggest advantages of hypnosis is the fact that it allows the patient to address any deep, subconscious stumbling blocks that may be hampering her progress. The biggest disadvantage is that successful hypnosis requires trust and the willingness to surrender--to yourself or someone else. Some people are more suggestible, than others, and can slip into a hypnotic state very easily. Those who are less suggestible may not enter a hypnotic state at all, or may need to try several times.
