It may seem impossible to take a mental health break when your personal schedule has more "To Do"s than "Done"s but it is possible. You may not be able to schedule a three-hour spa day, but even five minutes goes a long way.
Morning Meditation:
Before you start your daily chores, take five minutes for a morning meditation. Sit up in bed - to avoid falling asleep - and take three deep breaths and clear your mind. Don't think about all the stuff you have to do that day or what happened yesterday, but give yourself five minutes to clear your mind and focus your consciousness.
Musical Commute:
Whether you drive or are a passenger, you have a set amount of time where you are sitting, and waiting to get to your destination. Use that time to play a mix of your favorite music or a book on tape. If you carpool, on the days you are a passenger, wear earphones and save all work discussions for the office.
Walking Lunch:
A lot of people spend all day at work. Use your lunch break to get out of the office. If you work near a park, pack a lunch and feed the birds. Or, just walk around the block a couple of times.
I Scratch Your Back/You Scratch Mine:
Enlist the aid of your partner. Work out a deal where you trade favors so you each get adequate "me time". Maybe, one night, he takes the kids out to dinner and a movie while you get to stay home alone. Then, you reciprocate by giving him the opportunity for some alone time. If you don't have a partner, try setting up a deal with a trusted friend.
