A hectic life often means hectic eating. But you don’t have to compound your problems with poor diet choices. There are simple rules you can follow to always eat right.
1. Drink plenty of water. Diet soda may seem like a step in the right direction if you’re used to drinking soda, but the artificial sweeteners in diet soda can take you off track. Water has zero calories and a hydrated body is often less hungry.
2. Have one serving of fruits or vegetables at every meal. Adding something to your diet is a lot easier than taking something away. If you remind yourself to add a fruit or vegetable to every meal you will get the nutrients these food items pack without even thinking about it.
3. Pick whole grains when choosing your starches or sandwich breads. This is really just a matter of choosing the brown bread over the white one. Whole grains put more fiber in your diet and fiber keeps everything running smoothly.
4. Sit down when eating. Taking time to eat a meal without the distraction of television or driving will help you to be more conscious of what you are consuming. Being more aware will help your body receive the signal when it alerts you it is full. You’ll be more likely to eat less and choose healthier options.
5. Use small plates. Studies have shown that people eat more when their plates are larger. It’s subtle, but makes a big difference.
Eating right is difficult, but these simple steps will make healthy eating more of a habit than a choice.
