In reality we have to choose between "white" and "natural" teeth. According to dentists, teeth are not naturally white but rather a light yellow that darkens with age. Chemical companies try to sell us on the idea of white teeth by comparing chemically enhanced teeth with natural ones, which in contrast appear to be "dirty."
Keep your teeth looking their natural best by counterattacking the agents that stain the enamel (for example, coffee, soft drinks, cigarettes). Follow these easy steps to keep your teeth looking great:
• After every meal, brush your teeth with a soft brush for two minutes (the time and technique matter more than the strength of the brush). If you’re short on time, rinse with a cup of water.
• When possible, make an investment in your health: an electric toothbrush delivers superior results.
• Clean the spaces between your teeth with dental picks (wooden are better than plastic) and dental floss. The dental picks will massage your gums and the floss will reach between your teeth.
• Make a baking soda and hydrogenated water paste (you can use 2% hydrogen peroxide from the pharmacy or supermarket) to brush your teeth after using your regular toothpaste. After brushing, rinse and be careful not to swallow any of the paste. Do this three times a week.
• Avoid harsh commercial cleaners.
